The physical, mental and social benefits that children gain from participating in sports are important for developing a healthy, balanced life. Obviously, exercise is vital for all stages of development, but sports also help kids foster a sense of independence and responsibility, meet new friends, teach perseverance, problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and develop self-confidence and teamwork skills.

Enrolling your child in sports activities at summer camp also gives you an opportunity to introduce them to a new passion, potentially carrying on their involvement in the sport well past the end of the camp session.

“There are a lot of things that kids can do in the summer — playing and getting different experiences is huge,” says Dan Noble, program director for Muskoka Woods’ Athletic Performance Institute (API) and strength and conditioning coach for Toronto Maple Leafs phenom Mitch Marner. “Muskoka Woods provides kids the opportunity to try a lot of different things and stay away from being so specialized. But then it also gives them the opportunity to specialize in the areas that they want to. One of the most powerful things about Muskoka Woods is that you have a ton of positive people who just want to bring out the best versions of your kids.”

Younger campers may want to stick to familiar sports like basketball and soccer, while youth ages 11-16 may want to experience something a little more specialized like the new API. Check out Muskoka Woods’ selection of over 60 activities. Sports-related options are highlighted below. All activities are offered in either one- or two-hour time limits.
