Beyond the Woods podcast with John McAuley

Published on: April 23, 2020

What does a mayor, Cirque du Soleil performer and a hospital administrator have in common? All are Muskoka Woods alumni and today they are telling their stories of the lasting impact summer camp has on their lives.

In early 2019, Muskoka Woods President and CEO John McAuley invited alumni to join him in conversation about what it is that makes working at summer camp magical. His guests shared how being pushed outside of their comfort zones helped propel them in their work today and by how using their talents, real lives are being impacted.

Launching today includes a conversation with Whitchurch-Stouffville mayor, Iain Lovatt talks about how his experience as a guest and staff at Muskoka Woods shapes his approach to being a mayor today.

Ryan Stephenson, gymnastics alumni and Cirque du Soleil Acrobat Artist shares how growing up as a young man with a passion for gymnastics wasn’t always easy but thanks to his experience on staff he built the confidence and discipline required to make it under the big top.

Marc Neil runs a hospital in Northern Ireland with over 600 beds. The responsibility he carries on his shoulders is immense. As a CEO counsellor from 2007 through 2009, he says the high level of professionalism and care he brings to his job today was inspired by what he saw from staff when he was working at Muskoka Woods.
